Antibiotics are : Sometimes used but the main treatment is incision and drainage. I recommend soaking bottom in warm water which helps with pain and discomfort.

Accepted Answer

Yes many cases can: Be treated with medication as long as there is no spine instability and/or neurologic deficit or imaging consistent with imminent instability  and there is no significant abcess.

Accepted Answer

Yes and No: A true abcess needs to opened and drained, antibiotics by themselves are not enough.  It takes a combination and depending on what grows out of the abcess culture specific antibiotics for that infection can be used.

C infectious dz doc: You probably could benefit from seeing an infectious disease specialist to help you with a new treatment regimen. It is possible that you have "resistant organisms" and a new regimen maybe needed. Culturing and testing for sensitivity may help sort out what medicine is best for you. Consult id doc or your family doc for a referral. Good luck.

Yes: Please call Dentist to review medication instructions.  Also review any instructions on the medication bottle or that had been given to you in writing.  But please call the Dentist to clarify exactly what he/she wants you to do.

i am a 20/f. went to the dentist & had a root canal. i also had a abscess  was put on purmycin & adco-metrondaz. they made me  nauseous. today was the last day of the medications and i didn't take it as i havea fever of 38.3. is it the medication?

Fever: Antibiotics are supposed to prevent fevers, not cause them. If, however, you are having an allergic reaction to the medication it can cause a fever. But so can viral diseases (common cold, Flu, Covid-19, etc.) that are not treatable with antibiotics that are designed to treat bacterial infections. Call your General Physician and report your symptoms.

i have a reoccuring buttock abscess. it is draining but not healing and would like to know what medication to take as to stop te puss from forming and start healing? i have had this many years coming and going. do i need antibiotics again or not?

Surgical removal: These usually recur unless the capsule that surrounds the abscess inside the skin is broken up &amp; removed. If this has recurred over that length of time it is obvious to me that it needs to be opened surgically/drained &amp; the capsule removed. I often did this in my office under a local anesthetic.

i've been given antibiotics for an abscess along with ibuprofen and paracetamol. can i take all three of these medications at the same time?

Pick Two:: Take the antibiotic definitely, and pick ibuprofen; don't have to take paracetamol. Make sure you don't take Ibuprofen in empty stomach, eat something before.
