Depends on cause.: Allergies, enlarged adenoids/tonsils, thumb/finger sucking, or a tongue anchored to the floor of the mouth are common causes. Heredity, neurological and muscular problems can contribute to this.  See an ear nose and throat physician to evaluate the problem.  Occupational/physical therapy can be helpful too.

Good with practice: Nobody teaches a newborn how to swallow.  Many combinations are possible, depending on the shape of the nipple used in feeding them when firstborn.  Tongue thrust results when the tip of the tongue touches the teeth instead of the ridges of the palate.  Since we swallow hundreds of times a day, this powerful muscle can move the front teeth creating problems. Therapists teach optimal swallowing.

Clinical Exam: First, you need to go to see your PCP.  They will do a thorough clinical exam, and sort through all of your symptoms.  
After this, they will take blood work, and do a work up.  You may need an EMG/NCV Study (a study of your nerves)
There are many things that can cause your symptoms.  Sometimes, its as simple as lack of sleep,or dehydration, and you need to replenish the electrolytes in your body.

No: A blockage - usually a stone from a condition called sialadenitis - can cause local irritation and even mild local swelling. But your tongue movement would not be affected. You can suck on lemon drops and see if that removes the stone. A firm or hard swelling that affects tongue movement needs to be checked right away for possible tumor mass. Hope that helps.

More info needed: Thanks for your question!  To me it sounds like a condition known as torticollis.  In severe cases of muscle spasm, muscle relaxers and even sedatives are often needed to provide relief.  Hope this helps!

burning after soft bowel movement & urinating. little red bumps right arm/left wrist only for past 2weeks. have tiny tiny red sore forming on tip of tongue, had cold sores 1week ago. cant see pcp tell next week. how do i clear this up?

: When making a diagnosis we usually put all the symptoms and signs together and we try to come up with only one disease or syndrome. Based on what you describe, I wonder if there are relationship between oral lesion, skin rash along with bowel and urinary symptoms. If you cannot wait, go to urgent care because you will need blood + urine tests besides a thorough exam.

i have a ear clicking with any tongue movement. no wax, removed medication in case side effect. not tmj. with no other symptom, is allergy possible?

Ear Clicking: There are bones in the inner ear and they click when you increase the pressure in the oral cavity by holding your nose with your mouth closed.  You will hear the bones click as they move.  This is normal.
