Discuss with doc: These dyes have had enormous clinical use and rarely cause any problems.  The only risk is ultra rare sensitivity which usually occurs in those who have had exposure to these in the past.  Discuss with your doctor who will be administering these to you to put you at ease.  You might need some pre-test anti-anxiety medication.

what is the difference between a ct urography and an abdominal ct with contrast?

Technique: Routine CT with contrast is usu. done with images taken with about a 90 sec delay after contrast is given IV.  Images are viewed as cross sections and often sagittal (side views). Some places include coronal (frontal) too.
CT urography also includes a set of 12-15 minute delayed images which are then reformatted in 3D. See picture. Both techniques often also employ non-contrast imaging as well.

Yes: Yes,  you will be given IV contrast. Accuracy depends on the reason that you are doing ct scan done.

Yes: Yes it can but the slices of he scan need be small enough to determine the presence of a small herniation.  Ultrasound is probably a faster and cheaper method to evaluate for the hernia.

Bowel: Oral contrast will help in evaluating the bowel.

Accepted Answer

Yes and no: CT is density dependent.  We don't know if you have any.  A CT scan may not pick them up. Secondary changes such as GB wall thickening, adjacent fluid etc would be.  Ultrasound is usually the first step in evaluating the GB.  If you and/or your PCP are concerned due to some symptom, referral to a surgeon may be appropriate. However in the absence of symptoms there is usually no indication for this

abdominal ct w/o contrast incidentally showed multiple hypoattenuating renal lesions incompletely characterized as some subcentimeter in size. multiple right renal calculi largest measuring 0.4cm. are these significant or can be ignored?
