Combined therapy: Treating an intra-abdominal abscess is no easy task. Usually this takes a team of doctors - including a surgeon who may be able to drain or to operate, possibly a radiologist to insert a drain, an infectious diseases specialist to pick the right antibiotic, and other general doctors to manage everything else. An ID doc will consider allergies, cultures and clinical data to optimize your treatment.

Several options: The treatment of abdominal abscesses depends on the location, size, and cause.  Without seeing the imaging it's hard to know the best course of action.  That being said most abscesses are treated with drainage and antibiotics.  The drainage can most often be done percutaneously which means through the skin without a big incision.

Not likely: Abdominal abscess usually occurs from an appendix, a pancreatic inflammation, or more commonly from diverticulitis, and as a complication of surgery. If no cause could be found, then unusual etiologies can be pursued.

lrg incisional hernia. 4 surgeries on same scar, removed mesh due to abdominal abscess 4mos ago. pain, lg bulge, elev wbc, nauseated, is it emergent?

Possibly: If you know you have an elevated WBC you must be in contact with medical care source.  If you also have pain, a bulge, and nausea, you could have an infection or obstruction, either of which could be emergent.  If you have a source of care, go back to them and demand an explanation for the elevated WBC and pain.  Ideally go back to the same people who diagnosed the abscess and removed mesh, O/W ED

abdominal pain 8 wks after my prostatectomy. is this because uti (klebsiela >100,000) or i have intra-abdominal abscess. dr wants a ct, is mri useful?

CT: Is best ,MRI not of much value in this case. It is better for neuoro things And certain others but not in the abdomen. Sounds like you are in good hands.  Hope you feel better soon

I & D: The standard of care would be to make a small incision and allow it to drain.  If for some reason it can't be incised than ir doctors can drain using ultrasound or ct.

i have what appears to be a spot/abscess on my abdomen however i am concerned as around this is inflamed red ripple-like skin, any idea what this is?

You said it...: A picture is worth... well you know.  But you describe inflamed skin which would be simply just that and may simply subside by itself, or this may be a "clogged" infected hair follicle (folliculitis), skin infection (cellulitis), pus pocket of infection (abscess), an allergic reaction to an insect bite...  The would be the most common.  Thank you for the question.

after having abscess on lower abdominal drain and pack more then once. why did i have a extremely painful filling inside when packing got tug on?

Deep infection: packing is medicated gauze pushed deeply into an affected area. It can be painful- but ultimately leads to healing.
