Elective removal: Once in diseased gall bladder stones are formed , will give trouble later part of life most of the time . If there is no medical contraindication , removal is the first option.

i have a calculus in my gal bladder measuring 1.8 mm. is there any treatment?  i don't want to get operation.

Accepted Answer

Options: You can observe the gallstone if you are having no symptoms, discomfort or nausea from it. If the gallstone is causing you problems or painful symptoms then consider laparoscopic surgery to remove the problematic gallstone & gallbladder. It is a common straight forward outpatient surgery.

i have a stone in my gall bladder of 5.33mm calculus. does it need a surgery or tablets is enough to cure it? am afraid very much

Accepted Answer

Any symptoms?: How did they find the stone and why did they look for it? If you had symptoms suggestive to gall bladder obstruction, it is better to take the gall bladder out. If it never caused any symptoms, i would just keep an eye on it. No pills can help with this.

Passed kidney stone: If the CT showed a stone in the bladder and some mild hydroureter, it shows that there is some mild swelling of the kidney tube.  Since most stones in the urinary tract pass from the kidney to the bladder through the ureter, the swelling likely indicates that a stone caused some degree of blockage before getting to the bladder.  You may want to see a urologist to get your stone risks evaluated

Sounds like you: passed a stone from kidney to bladder.  Strain your urine so your doctor can send it for stone analysis.  If this is your first episode, you probably don't need any further testing, unless it becomes a recurrent problem.  Avoid dehydration and intake of excess calcium.

No: Kidney stones are not normal. However, that does not mean that you will necessarily have symptoms from one.

i have been diagnosed with mild calyceal dilation in right kidney suggesting hydronephosis, a 4mm calculus at ureter bladder junction. is this serious?

Probably not: A Stone in the ureter can cause back pressure in the kidney which results in dilation of the collecting system. The kidney can tolerate this for relatively short periods of time however if this continues it can damage the kidney. I would suggest you consult a urologist.

Accepted Answer

If v.large/obstructs: Very unusual to die from bladder stone. Would have to remain untreated with huge bladder stone occupy the entire bladder and obstructingt inflow of urine. Or stone in a bladder diverticulum (outpouching) and obstructing ureter from single functioning kidney. I had a patient with neurogenic bladder  + large grapefruit size bladder stone, weighing >2lbs, which would have killed her if left untreated.

are there habits that make bladder stone more likely?

Water intake: Not drinking enough water makes the urine more concentrated and facilitates the formation of urinary stones in the kidney and bladder.  Depending on the type of stone, altering the pH or urine may affect stone formation.
