Starts sometimes: All prostates enlarge with age, and symptoms start when this happends.  A 55 yo can have this and that is a common age for the start.  As long as you have it evaluated, psa testing, manual examination and these are ok   and   you have tolerable symptoms:  night urination, urgency, frequency - all not too bad, then you can live with it. Consult your urologist.

what is the best way for a 55 year old man with an enlarged prostate to get the last few drops of urine out? even though i prefer to urinate standing up, is better to switch to urinating sitting down to empty the bladder more fully?

but beningn prostatic hypertrophy occurs in men over the age of 50 
and cancer of prostate is unlikely in a 16 years old male.

Other BPH Options: While a TURP (transurethral resection of the prostate) remains an excellent option for bph, there are several other surgical therapies. They are less likely to have side effects more common in turp, such as incontinence, impotence, retrograde ejaculation, or TUR syndrome (absorbing too much fluid during surgery).  If medications fail or are intolerable, ask your urologist about tumt, tuna or gyrus.
