You probably had a: miscarriage. Get to your Dr and get quantitative HCg's and see if it is falling towards zero,indicating a loss of pregnancy

Is it OK?: No it is not OK. You must report this to your obstetrician as soon as possible!

Probably not, but: Absence of an embryonic sac (fetus) 6 weeks after your last menstrual period is suspicious for a fetal demise. The most important question I would ask is if you had a pelvic ultrasound before this one that showed a sac and a heart beat. If you've never had an ultrasound before this most recent one you could always get another one in a week to re-evaluate.

Cramping: On/off occasional cramping in pregnancy is normal. If severe in nature or lasts for a long time, see your doctor. Also if accompanied by bleeding see your doctor.

Hormonal imbalance: Menstrual irregularities are not uncommon and anovulatory cycle is a common cause. If you miss more than two periods it would be time to see your doctor. Yes: Many women experience uterine cramping during pregnancy with no bleeding.  Be sure and seek obstetrical care during your pregnancy to ensure proper growth for you and the baby.

No really OK: If you are having uterine cramping at 16 weeks of pregnancy, it may be an indication that something is not right.  Dehydration and infection are common causes of preterm contractions.  Try drinking a lot of water and laying down to rest, if the cramping continues, you should be evaluated by a doctor.

Light bleeding: Most light bleeding in the early stages of pregnancy proves not to be serious. Nevertheless you should report and discuss this with your obstetrician.

Possible miscarriage: Bleeding with cramping in the first trimester can indicate a miscarriage. See your OB Dr for an exam and possible untrasound to determine if the fetus's hearbeat is still present. If the fetus is still viable, your Dr may recommend bed rest to prevent further bleeding/cramping and may monitor you more closely, doing tests for progesterone and other factors.

Common: As your uterus expands with the baby, the muscles may have some mild cramping. This is very common. As long as you are not bleeding, and they remain mild, you can just keep an eye on the symptoms. If in doubt, contact your OB. If no OB, and you see a worsening of symptoms, youi may need to go to er.   Good Luck with your pregnancy
