for a small nodule ct scan follow up at 3-4 months early on can document any growth or change.
If enlarging-remove.
If calcifying it is likely benign and needs nothing done.
In the midwest histoplasmosis can be the cause of single or multiple such findings.

Big enough: A 13 mm lung nodule warrants a pet/ct scan. This will identify things like calcifications seen in benign nodules and will determine if sugar uptake is high as seen in infection or tumor or low indicating scar. Depending on the likelihood of cancer, a ct guided biopsy is possible in most peripheral nodules greater than 9mm. Lung cancer is increasing in nonsmokers, women and the young in u. S.

Possible: What you described is not normal, but quite possible. Small cell lung cancers can spread to other organs even before the primary lesion is detected.

Yes and yes.: Get an opinion from pulmonologist or thoracic surgeon regarding opinion about possible biopsy.  It depends whether or not the benefits of biopsy outweigh its risks.

Met: It would be helpful to see the image during an inbox consult. Is there a history of smoking or a family history of cancer? There are risk factors for lung cancer which can be reviewed. I would also suggest a full physical exam.
