is an elective 3d/4d ultrasound at 14+4 weeks safe? because of covid my fianc cant come to any appointment and we would like to book a private scan so he can see the babies?

COVID 19 concerns: Please contact the clinic or hospital where you wish to have the  ultrasound done to see if they can accommodate your request. Although it could be done fairly safely, it would still need to be approved by the facility if they have a policy in effect.

paid for a private 3d scan at 14w4d and in one of the pictures my son looks like he has no chin. ultrasound tech said dont worry babies are still developing alot at this stage. can this be a true physical defect or perhaps just the angle? nervous?

Possibilities: There are cases where the angle is just hard to make assessment possible. There are also instances where the lower jaw remains posteriorly positioned leading to some issues in early infancy. Posterior placement of the tongue/jaw can impede full development of the palate in a condition known as the Pierre Robin sequence. Over time the lower jaw does develop &amp; most do quite well.

Not a problem: These have been looked at for years & have never showed evidence of being a problem.

3 early ultrasounds. 1st us at 6wk 3d measured only 6wk. 2nd at 7wk2d measured 6wk4d. 3rd at 9wk3d, baby measured 8wk2d. is this concerning?

No, but: You are having decent interval growth, and early us is not as exact size and dating as those in the second trimester. However, you are older, so there are concerns related to that like adequate placental blood flow, so you need to make sure you are followed closely, don't smoke, get plenty of rest and reduce your worrying and stress, as even these can affect blood flow.

does a level 2 ultrasound tell you , your babys gender and do they.give 3d pics after the handle the important aspects of the test? hwhats its cost?

Detailed anatomy: A level ii us is a very detailed look at the baby's anatomy. Gender can normally be seen, though you don't need a level ii for this. It may include a consult for genetics. It's normally indicated in high risk pregnancies: over age 35, twins, high blood pressure. Not all level ii uss will include 3d pictures which can also be done with a normal us. Cost varies greatly depending on where you are.

if i get a 3d ultrasound do i have to learn gender? i want to see my baby in 3d, but i want the gender to be a surprise.  possible?  what should i tell the tech to make sure this happens?

Yes, : Yes, it is possible to image your baby in 3-d and not reveal the gender. Tell the ultrasound technologist that you would like 3-d images of the face, hand, foot, etc. Also, let the ultrasound technologist know that you do not wish to find out the gender of the baby. Generally, the ultrasound technologist will do his/her best to accommodate the request of the patient as long as the request is within reason.

i just received a 3d ultrasound how can i tell the baby has a clept lip ?

Ask your physician.: In 1 experimental series, all cases of clefting of the primary palate and 86% of cases involving the secondary palate were visualized using 3d ultrasound with a satisfactory false-positive rate. Virtual navigation of the fetal palate using the multiplanar mode display seems to be useful in the diagnosis of clefting in the first trimester. Bottom line: it should be visulaized if presents.

3d ultrasound shows umbilical cord lying near/ baby's face. anything to be concerned about?

Not at all: There is nothing to worry about because of the baby's umbilical cord near the face.  That is normal, the cord is usually free to float about in the amniotic fluid, so if you looked again later the cord would likely have moved to another area.
It poses no risk to the baby.
