Need more info: Stage 3 = bridging fibrosis (scarring of the liver) which is the stage before cirrhosis = stage 4, so stage 3 is not cirrhosis, however you could have had complications like fluid build up (ascites), confusion (hepatic encephalopathy), vomiting blood (esophageal varices) that might make your "stage 3" an underestimate (meaning you might be close to stage 4). Discuss with your liver doctor!

?stage 3 or 4: Cirrhosis=stage 4 (not 3), or advanced liver scars.Complications like fluid build up in your abdominal cavity (ascites), confusion (hepatic encephalopathy), and liver cancer (hcc) as well as easy bruising, fatigue and jaundice on occasion (elevated bilirubin) can occur.  You need to be followed by a liver doctor who can manage and control the above signs/symptoms as they occur at different rates.

i'm 36y/o male. moderate cirrhosis from alcohol.  three years clean.  would intermittent fasting be ok? trying to lose weight. 8 hrs on 16hrs fast

Maybe not: When you have Liver disease your body i.e the Liver may not maintain your blood glucose. Fasting can be problematic. Decreasing high calorie and excise under medical guidance is best option. Would not suggest you fast.

Withdrawals: With a history of cirrhosis and that much recent alcohol ingestion, you are right in being worried that alcohol withdrawals could be difficult. It is obvious that you need to stop, of course. However, I would speak with your doctor ASAP about how to do that. Good for you for reaching out for help. Important for you to follow through now.

Hoping so!: I'm going to assume that alcohol is the sole cause, and that he's been checked for hemochromatosis, Wilson's, and hepatitis B and C. If he does choose to stop drinking, having a loving and forgiving wife will be the most wonderful support he can have. Cirrhosis does regress some on achieving sobriety. Hopefully his mind is still basically okay. Wishing you both the best.

Nature of ultrasound: This is kind of subtle, and I'll try to explain as I'm a pathologist. Especially if your husband's disease is due to alcohol, all the little units of the liver are affected about the same, so ultrasound -- which lights up borders between areas of different consistency -- won't show a thing. This is actually good news. If I recall, he's sober now and I hope he recovers well.

Cant say: You may never develop cirrhosis; however, your question indicates a concern over an obviously heavy pattern of alcohol use.  You need to stop drinking.      (btw- its not helpful to count glasses of alcoholic drinks but to count ounces of alcohol used in order to determine the # of standard drinks).

i was diagnosed last week with a slightly increased echotexture and echgencity i slipped and drank 3 days last week which i dont plan on doing again..could i have caused cirrhosis in that time?

: Drinking for three days would not cause cirrhosis. How long have you been drinking before that. If you have a history of drinking you should disclose that to your doctor so that you may be evaluated for cirrhosis or other alcohol induced disorders.
