Cystitis? Not UTI: Your urine cultures are definitely negative; mixed flora on urine culture in these small amounts is normal and not the cause of infection. Probably you have some bladder inflammation other than infection, such as interstitial cystitis. This can be a drug reaction, maybe due to one of your UTI antibiotics. Or autoimmune. Ask your doctor for referral to a urologist. Good luck!

45 years, male. had my annual physical. urine analysis revealed 0-2 hpf rbc in the urine and had urine occult blood as small. the primary care doctor said its normal and not a concern. do i need to see a urologist for further investigation?

: 0-2 RBCs /hpf with microscopic exam is within normal limit and positive by dipstick test for small occult blood is commonly observed due to chemical reaction rather than due to true hematuria. I would not have it repeated unless this person has some urinary symptoms. Definitely, there is no need for a urology consultation but if you are too concerned, a repeat urinalysis can be done in 2 weeks.

See below: Wbc are usually due to infection, but non-infectious causes of inflammation, such as interstitial cystitis, radiation injury and stones can lead to WBC in urine. Hematuria: RBC in the urine could be either from the kidneys or the bladder(cystitis). Endothelial damage in the kidney can result in both hematuria and proteinuria. Protein content should be quanitifed to better understand its pathology,(Nephriti/Nephrotic). RBC&#x27;s in the urine can accompany protein in the urine if the kidneys are injured. Protein will not be detected as a direct result of RBC in the urine

Microhematuria: This is worth a follow-up. A few percent of human beings always have extra red cells in the urine without any clear cause, and it's actually normal in serious runners. Ask your physician whether your daily Aspirin might have something to do with it, and whether any follow-up is indicated -- a check for bladder or kidney tumors is the chief concern.

In females this is common with recent period. See your doctor for further follow up as this needs to be looked at in a clinical context to be sure everything is good.
