No: A second degree burn by definition should not leave a scar.  That said, keep moisturizers on the area for at least 3 months and no sun exposure to the area.

See a doctor / denti: I'm not clear if u accidentally drank hot liquids or why u think u have a 2nd degree burn. In any case, u shd get checked out by a doctor who can do an exam. Make sure u keep up ur fluid intake, no matter how painful, as ur health will get worse if u don't. Only drink cold liquids, it may help w/ pain &amp; swelling. Keep clean: Second degree burns are where the skin blisters and peels. It will heal in less than 2 weeks if just kept clean by washing and covering with local antibiotics such as Bacitracin ointment.

Depends: Second degree burns are broken into two categories - superficial and deep.  Superficial 2nd degree burns usually heal with minimal scarring, while deeper burns scar.  The damage has already been don and this cannot be reversed.  If in doubt, consult with your physician.

we started using bacitracin already for a second degree burn with blisters. i was told to use it. is it ok?

NO!!!!!: Bacitracin does not prevent infections. Bacitracin is a common sensitizer. It is one of the most common causes of allergic reactions. Usually the reactions just cause local itch, redness, swelling, poor wound healing. A few deaths have occurred. Treat it with water irrigation and vaseline or Aquaphor.

Probably: 2nd-degree burns will heal on their own in 1-3 weeks, given good wound care & good nutrition. They are initially red, painful, and possibly covered with blisters. As they heal, they dry up, the blisters slough off, and the pain disappears.

THIRD DEGREE BURN: THIRD DEGREE BURN, is when the injury cause blistering of the skin and eventual rupture. You need to be examined and the severity assessed . I usually will start a topical antibiotic like SILVADENE and an oral antibiotic like CEFTIN (cefuroxime). Depending on severity a consult with a BURN SPECIALIST OR PLASTIC SURGEON MAY BE WARRANTED.

: A course of antibiotics may be indicated. The fluid is usually thin and yellow from the wound as it heals. Thick discolored discharge most likely indicates an infection. Watch for signs of fever, please see your PCP or urgent care.
