im 13 week pregant and my cervix length has reduced from 3.5cm to 3cm in last 13 weeks. got to know cl will reduce in pregancy and should be less than 2.5cm to avoid preterm delivery. so in coming weeks will this cl effect my pregancy by reducing?

Cervical length ?'s: It is not unusual for the cervical length to decrease during pregnancy, however, at "13 weeks" of pregnancy, the growing fetus is not generally the cause.  If you have had no prior premature labor, the majority of pregnancies to not result in an "incompetent cervix" which results in premature delivery or surgical correction.  Continued U/S to follow cervical length is advised.

my 1st pregnancy is fullterm with no complications[vaginal delivery] this is my 2nd pregnancy and during 20 week anatomy scan, my cervix length is 3cm. iam bit worried. my doc isn't concerned at all. do you think i need a transvaginal ultrasound?

: Trust your OB doctor, do not worry if your doctor doesn't. You had a normal first pregnancy so the anatomy of your cervix should be fine for the second one. Of course, a transvaginal US will give you a better measurement but you do not need to push for it if your OB doc thinks not necessarily. Good luck with your second baby.

Yes: 3.2cm is more or less normal.   One study found that at 24 weeks gestation, the average cervical length is 3.5 cm.  We start to worry if it is shorter than 2.5cm as there is a 1/5 chance of pre-term delivery.    Best wishes!

Yes: This is normal. You will have some thinning of the cervix as you get closer to the time of delivery. It is supposed to be closed and firm at 30 weeks, but it is normal if it gets somewhat shorter.

Probably
Probably: The normal cervix is about 35mm to 50mm. However a cervix of 25 mm, while considered shortened, is still normal. The shorter cervix may correlate to a greater chance for early delivery, but probably has nothing to do with PPROM.

Not likely to: increase in length, not under your control.  Usually will slowly get thinner, so should be monitored.

Usually earlier: A cerclage is typically placed earlier in the pregnancy in patients who meet very specific criteria.  A cervical length of 3 cm would be normal but their could be circumstances that a cerclage may be appropriate.  Do not hesitate to get a second opinion from a perinatologist..

Cervical shortening: The average cervix at 15 weeks is usually 3 cm or more, but what's more important is whether or not there was funneling.  When the tech pushes on the uterus and the membranes and cervix appear to flatten out or even bulge through the cervix then you have funneling.  If that happens they likely discuss using a pessary or elective cerclage.  Prior preterm birth patients do get the length check early

Short, yes: Yes this is short but okay for now - but you need to folllow your High risk ob/gyn to follow the length of your cervix
