Unlike a metatarsal stress fracture which often can rely on the other metatarsal to the brunt of the stress from weightbearing, there is only one navicular and it's articulation is key in supporting the arch of the foot.

Small chip fractures in the foot can resorb; however, if the chip fracture is in an area where it has the possibility of resetting, it is up to the doctor examining the condition if the chip will heal on its own or may need surgical intervention to be fixated back.
