Electrical muscle stimulation
Ems can be used as a therapeutic or cosmetic tool. There are over the counter and prescription devices. The fda have certified ems devices for the following: relaxation of muscle spasms; prevention or slowing of disuse atrophy; increasing local blood circulation; muscle re-education; and immediate post-surgical stimulation of calf muscles to prevent venous thrombosis.
