Yes: I will sometimes use electrical stimulation therapy to help strengthen muscles usually as a part of physical therapy. For instance after an acl tear and repair in the knee, there is often significant atrophy of the quadriceps muscle. Estim helps a great deal. In persons with spinal cord injury, electrical stimulation uses chronically can help with atrophy.
