Severe infection

A severe infection is a vague term; it means that instead of a straightfoward, mild infection that has a very low mortality rate, it is more dangerous either due to degree of spread or the critical nature of the organ(s) being infected. Also, it could mean that the infective agent is harder to kill due to resistance.

Dr. Tony Ho reviewed this

16 year experience in Internal Medicine

How long it usually lasts:

Chronic (lasts years to lifelong)
