Touch: Herpes simplex is quite contagious. If there was contact of the eyelid with virus, that is all that it takes. For example, touching a cold sore and then rubbing the eye can spread the infection to the eyelid. Remember, it could also be herpes zoster (chickenpox virus). Best to have it professionally evaluated.
