Tonsil swelling: Hpv will typically cause a small lesion called a papilloma, not cause one-sided tonsil swelling. There can be many possible causes, but, as an ent, I am always worried about growths within the tonsil. You should be evaluated by your doctor.

Tonsils and STD's : If you are concerned about std's that affect the throat from oral sex, they usually involve both tonsils. The tonsils are the body's first line of defence against infection, but usually both respond to infections. Std screen in urine and blood will help. Gonorrhea of the throat and hpv infection occur, but without culture and sensitivity, it is not possible to make a diagnosis by looking.
