No: Iuds are not permanent. They can be removed and then you can get pregnant. The advantages of an iud is that you can place an iud and leave it in for years (5 years and 10 years max for Mirena (levonorgestrel) and paraguard, respectively). No more taking pills regularly or appointments for injections. And they are almost 99% effective.
