Birth control is making me depressed - should i switch to a higher or lower dosage?

OCP and depression: Usually the androgen/progesterone component of the oral contraceptive medication increases depression, but the shifting levels of hormones also can destabilize mood. Track your mood across your cycle and take this data to your md to discuss the problem and make a clear alternative plan. If you are particularly sensitive to hormones, consider an iud for birth control instead of hormones.

Discuss: You should discuss the response or side effects with your physician. There may be other birth control options for you that may not have the same side effect.
