Genetic counseling: There is no known treatment currently for rp although it is being heavily studied and some consider an answer might come from stem cell research. You should seek the advice of a genetic counselor to determine the inheritance type of your rp and thus whether or not you should bear children.

Unclear: Retinitis pigmentosa is a group of inherited disorders that cause degeneration of the retina and vision loss. The most common symptoms are night blindness and gradual loss of peripheral vision. A retina specialist can help determine the inheritance pattern and advice on factors that may prevent or accelerate vision loss.
