Several options: The normal ph of the vagina is 4.0-4.5 and the ph of blood is 7.4 so women are set up for bacterial overgrowth every time they have a period. Uncontrolled overgrowth results in bacterial vaginosis which can lead to burning. A soothing treatment for the vagina, which has a ph of 4, is plain yogurt douching which may help with the burning after menses.
