STD vs HIV vs AIDS: Std stands for sexually transmitted disease. That means any sexually transmitted disease. Hiv is the humane immunodeficiency virus which causes aids. Aids is a form of std but it can also be transmitted by sharing needles. A person may have HIV but not have symptoms of aids.
