A few times a month my daughter has had poop that smells of burnt rubber and is nearly black. other days its normal, she also has a umbilical hernia that hasnt gone away, we were told it may by the time she is 2. why does it smell like that?

Poop smell is caused by gas created by bacteria feeding on undigested debris in the digestive tract. It has nothing to do with the hernia. Gut bacteria get there off the kids fingers or food & there are many strains including yeast present. Giving the kid probiotics can change the profile of gut bacteria and may change the smell.
