The "fertile window" for most women extends from 24-48 hours prior to ovulation to 24-48 hours after release of the egg. Sperm an live in the reproductive tract for several days, and ovulation itself is often delayed by stress, which makes it difficult to predict when pregnancy may occur. See your GYN physician and ask about low dose oral contraceptives or an IUD for secure contraception.

Fertile window is when the egg/eggs (ova) are available for fertilization and outside the 'window' means no eggs available- so no pregnancy. Sperms do not last more then a few days if not utilized. Exact duration is variable depending on the receptivity of the uterus/ tubes
