A member asked:

I was prescribed birth control patch and it is my first time with contraceptive. do i absolutely have to start it during my menstrual or can i take it anytime? if so, when will it be effective?

This is the usual practice since menses indicates you are not pregnant at the start. (exposing a fetus to the drug) Many OBGYNS will encourage you to use a backup BC for the 1st few weeks or month to be sure your body adapts to the BC. Effectiveness is then at whatever level possible with the patch.
