My ob/gyn recently diagnosed me with trichomoniasis. can there be false positives with this type of std?? misdiagnoses do exist, but what is the percentage of accuracy for this test? i've been monogamous and so has my partner?

The standard trichomonas tests (nucleic acid amplification test [NAAT] or culture) never are falsely positive. However, if trich was diagnosed only by Pap smear, i.e. no test for trich itself, that result can be false. Discuss with your doctor. If trich was diagnosed only by its appearance by Pap smear, ask for a NAAT for Trichomonas vaginalis.
