The standard trichomonas tests (nucleic acid amplification test [NAAT] or culture) never are falsely positive. However, if trich was diagnosed only by Pap smear, i.e. no test for trich itself, that result can be false. Discuss with your doctor. If trich was diagnosed only by its appearance by Pap smear, ask for a NAAT for Trichomonas vaginalis.
