On rare occasions, HPV is found in women who say they have never had sex. Some are not telling the truth, and others may have repressed sexual experiences (e.g. if there was sexual abuse in childhood). Once HPV is in the genital area, probably it can spread to the cervix, without penetration sex. Some infections are just unexplained, including HPV of the cervix.
