A member asked:

Can you have a yeast infection only in your vulvar? inside has no discharge or irritation. koh and gram stain show no yeast but culture came back few yeast. is this a normal finding? outside vagina is irritated, but inside looks normal?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

A vulvar rash (irritation) can occur without a "vaginal" source of fungal infection (yeast). Skin reactions to some soaps and/or detergents from poor rinsing of underclothes can start a delayed sensitivity, itching and irritation. Try washing undergarments in Ivory Snow, a pure soap, which may help, and ask your gyn physician about steroid cream, which can suppress the rash.
