You ingest germs daily from random contact with fingers/foods & the environment. Your intestines is filled with such germs that live off digestive debris. Pre-biotics are a gimmick, it means food germs like but they don't need extra. Probiotics are just "seed" forms of germs that behave nice in your gut. They may or may not crowd out bad germs. Some think they help, I'm skeptical they do anything
