28 day Birth control pills should be taken for the full 4 weeks of the menstrual cycle (including the placebo week). Allowing your hormone levels to return to low levels during the period week is vital for resetting your system. Keeping your hormone levels artificially high by not taking the placebo pills will cause side effects such as hot flashes, breast tenderness and nausea. Talk to your DR.
