Unfortunately, no clear answers. Anal warts (and other HPV infections) can occur in people who don't have anal sexual exposure. Auto-inoculation (self infection) from genital infection may occur, e.g. by fingers, but some cases probably are due to spread of HPV along the skin to the anus. There is no known prevention. The chance you'll ever have anal warts is low. Anal itch doesn't suggest warts.
