A member asked:

Is it true if you start birth control pills (combination pill - junel fe 1/20) at the start of your period first day start, you dont need to use a backup method?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Wouldn't bet on it: Many OBGYNs suggest using a backup method for the first month you start the pill while some pill companies state you are protected within a week or two. If it matters I would not bet on it being ready this way.The pill works by preventing egg release & if it has not attained a steady level (over time) in your system it may not work.
