A member asked:

If someone accidentally transfers herpes to another part of her body, is the breakout in the new place like an initial severe breakout or like a recurrent milder breakout?

Little or no risk: Autoinoculation of herpes simplex virus (HSV) to another part of the body is very rare once infected more than a few weeks. People with recurrent oral herpes never transmit it to their genital area; and gential herpes is not transmitted to the mouth, face, etc. However, someone with say oral HSV1 can acquire genital HSV2 from a partner and vice versa. When this happens, usually it's quite mild.
