A member asked:

No periods from birth control for a year. was feeling odd and went to doctor found out i was pregnant they said measured at 8 weeks. how accurate is this age? could i be further along at 8 weeks maybe if baby has iugr

Quite accurate but: Dates are estimates, plus or minus a week. Nobody can tell one's exact conception day (when sperm met egg) in a natural pregnancy. If using ultrasound dates, the 8 to 11 week gestation dates are more accurate. The estimated due date is also an estimate, and most babies are not born on their due dates. Because dates are never exact, one shouldn't think too much about them.
