When there is...: A serology test looking for antibodies to HSV 1 and HSV 2 will give more accurate results when there is: a higher level of suspicion that a patient has the virus, a patient has with skin lesions that suggest herpes virus, or a patient with a history of symptoms that sound like herpes outbreaks. Testing people who have a very low likelihood of herpes may decrease accuracy due to false positives.
