Yes and no: The main cause of abnormal pap smear is human papillomaviru (HPV) infeciotn. HPV is sexually transmitted. If you have an active genital HPV infection, you may have an abnormal pap smear. Other STDs like gonorrhea, chlmayida, syphilis, etc can cause minor pap smear abnormalities (inflammation), but do not cause seriously abnormal paps. Get the HPV vaccine if you haven't yet had it.
