Cellular changes due to HPV, and HPV itself, can show up in a pap smear as soon as a few weeks or many years later, or anywhere in between. You could have HPV for years with negative pap smears. Follow your doctor's recommendation on when and how often to have pap smears. If no symptoms, don't worry about it.
