A member asked:

Is cervical hpv the same infection as oral hpv? throat sore with red & white on one side for months. i'm 30 y/o but have persistent cervical hpv & drank every day for 8 years (2 gps said hpv not linked to oral cancer but i don't think that's true?)

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Cancer strains: Of the 7 or so strains of HPV associated with cancer, sexual practices make the location of their activity interchangeable. Oral cancer is found less often than cervical cancer, but my read of the literature suggests your GP's are misinformed. An ENT could evaluate your worrisome sites but I would not assume they are cancer.
