I often get painful red pimples in the crease where my butt cheeks meet the back of my thighs. what causes this & how to prevent it?

Possibilities: These are sites where you have hair follicles that are sometimes infected by common skin germs. Since the area receives little attention during a shower or bath it may have a higher germ load than other sites. More attention during bathing & a scrub with antibacterial soap may reduce the frequency of events.

Pimples: In addition to the other good advice you have received via HT, consider a change in the type of underwear you wear. If briefs, perhaps boxers, or briefs that have longer legs so the elastic is not at the base of the gluts. Make sure to change them daily. Peace and good health.

Some other factors : Pay attention to setting habits,excessive pressure on these areas, excessive sweating. The more these areas dry and cool less likely to get infected.
