PCOS off BC: PCOS is a condition where the ovaries off BC tend to make a lot more androgens which can contribute to hair loss and acne. New stressors like college can also contribute to hair loss, and poor diet (all you can eat college meal plans) do not help much either as most college students gain weight making PCOS worse. People who get worse off BC should probably restart their BC to control symptoms.

Life change/stress: It is not unusual for a body to experience things like hair loss or changes in weight when under the stress and anxiety of life changes like moving away from home and college stress. there may have been a change in diet/exercise too. It may be hormonal and stress related. Something that coulld help would be sulfate free shampoo and conditioner and additional vitamin E. Seek therapy for anxiety.
