It depends...: If there are symptoms of genital or oral herpes, the sores should be tested to confirm the diagnosis and learn the virus type. Blood tests are controversial if no symptoms. Testing is wise if symptoms suggest outbreaks, or if the regular sex partner of an infected person. Otherwise, most experts don't recommend it, but some do. Discuss your case with an expert, e.g. an NHS GUM clinic.
