Pregnancy: only occurs when sperm fertilizes an egg. This occurs after ovulation, the egg being expelled at ovulation and being fertile for at the most 2 days. So there is a 1-2 day window for the sperm to fertilize the egg. Sperm can stay alive in the vaginal tract for up to 5 days. So if you know exactly when you ovulate and exactly when sperm is available you can determine if it is possible.

Yes!: While the efficacy that intercourse may result in a pregnancy varies at different time points during your cycle, don't ignore the fact that even a reduced chance of pregnancy is considerably (and possibly unacceptably) higher than with abstinence.

Sure you can: Cycle timing has an incredibly high failure rate which is why couples start birth control. Ovulation is necessary to get pregnant but trying to time intercourse around it has a high failure rate. If avoiding pregnancy is important to you please see your doctor to discuss more effective birth control methods. Use over the counter Plan B if intercourse was within 72 hours to decrease the risk
