Dr. Alvin Lin answered

Constipation: Fiber, fluids & exercise are great 1st line attempts to prevent and/or treat constipation. If over-the-counter stool softeners don't work, try laxatives such as Milk of Magnesia (magnesium hydroxide) or Polyethylene Glycol which we used to prescribe as bowel prep so you know it's got to be effective. There are several new meds to treat constipation but need to get checked out 1st by ur Family Doc for hypothyroidism etc
