Yes: If you are late for your depo-provera injection, you need to use back up contraception for two weeks. You also need to protect yourself from Sexually Transmitted Infections.

Late shot: If one of your late shots was recent then yes. I tell my late patients they must use a back up for the next month. In addition even with perfect depo use 3-5% of patients will get pregnant on depo, so check a test. Also I won't give a late shot unless the patient will abstain from unprotected sex at least 2 weeks, then I give it.
