See below: There are a number of reasons for spotting or abnormal bleeding or menstruation. Most of the causes are NOT due to any serious condition such as cancer. But it is IMPORTANT to see a gynecologist to find out the cause and to be SURE that nothing serious is present. The most common cause is Dysfunctional Uterine Bleeding(DUB): The cause is hormonal.
