Completely different: Both can be transmitted sexually but are very very different conditions. Hpv is a virus, some strains of which can predispose to cervical cancer. Syphilis is caused by a spirochaete (treponema pallidum), a type of bacteria which produces a very complicated disease.

Sexually transmitted: Hpv and syphilis are both sexually transmitted diseases; however, they are two separate / distinct infections. Hpv is a virus, and syphilis is caused by a bacteria called treponema pallidum. These two disease processes have different biology, different consequences and different treatments. If you are concerned that you have either of these infections, you should visit a health provider.
