Is it true that when you get a vasectomy you stop producing sperm eventually?

Not necessarily: A successful vasectomy results in a complete blockage of the vas deferens (sperm duct). However, the testes continue to produce sperm for many years. This can continue for as long as a non vasecectomised man. Hence, about 50% of men can undergo successful vasectomy reversals and regain fertility.

Not Exactly: A vasectomy stops the sperm from making it outside. The testicles still produce sperm, but they are reabsorbed by the body. A vasectomy does not stop the function of any organ involved in reproduction, it only blocks the ability to reproduce. Eventually, there will no longer be any sperm found in the ejaculate due to a vasectomy, but sperm is still being produced.

Shut down: Eventually sperm production slows down and subsides. That is why reversals are difficult after 15 years.
