Is a sign of too much estrogen in your birth control pill insomnia? or is it the particular type of progestin to blame?

No definite answer: Usually more related to progesterone. Even among varying dose of estrogen in birth control pills they are all low doses, and generally even the same estrogen. Insomnia can also be a sign of lowering of your own estrogen levels as women get closer to menopause. So it may not be from the pills.
